May 21st - This week we are doing our feature articles about whatever topic we want to do it on. This week I am doing an article about how softball players get their speed when they play because I am interested in that type of thing. This is going to be a fun project to do! -Maggie M.
May 16th - In ELA we will be taking notes about our topic. Next week don't forget your books or book because we will be reading instead of daily language review.. Carmelo B
May 15th, Today in class we got to write out highlights which are things we looked back on from 6th grade that we have done. We used our black flairs to write it on a really cool paper light bulb! Also we have been working on our tower of books challenge (Keep up the good work). If you have not checked your email please do! Also all students have been sent home with an ice cream list check it out! It is on the 31 of may (Donation list is on the ice cream paper thank you so much) -Samantha P
May 13th, Happy May everyone! It's hard to believe that we are getting very close to the end of the school year! Even though we only have a few weeks left of school, we're still doing a lot of learning in ELA! This week we're researching for our feature articles. We're learning to cite, paraphrase, and more. May 13th - Last week we were doing MAP testing. It was a long week but we all got through it and got great scores! Plan to bring in some ice cream topping because soon enough the students will be having an ice cream sundae party for the Tower of Book Challenge! More information will be sent home soon. April 29th - Today in class we went to the library and probably for the last time as were wrapping up the end of the school year. We also just finished our nonfiction unit as were heading right into feature articles. Continuing on later this week we have MAP testing- wishing everyone luck and the best of a job. Also the thought of the week is "A goal without a plan is just a wish" you may want to put that into consideration for MAP testing. Catch you next time with 6th period.-Aleah I.
April 24th - This week we are just wrrapping up the non-fiction unit. Then we are moving on to feature articles.Sounds like fun am I right. Also we are about to start Map testing for reading - wishing everybody luck. The skill for the week was non-fiction, identifying text structures.It is almost May. Is anyone thinking of ideas for In The News! I sure have. I was thinking about self-driving cars. Stay tune for more facts from 7th period. -Kyra T
April 15th - April showers bring Plowers. Tomorrow, April 16th, we have Ancient Egypt family night at 6-7:30 PM. There's an escape room with a wonderful prize when you complete the escape room. There will be all of the wonderful Ancient Egypt projects that we did in Social Studies, and the mummies and sarcophagi's. You'll learn about the different structures and the problems that Ancient Egypt might've faced. Over the 2 weeks in ELA we've been learning about the Text Structures. No Daily DLR this week because Friday, we have no school. Have a Nice week, Piper K.

March 14th - This week we finished up IAR testing and good news we made it! We worked hard and tried our best. We are going to soon start the nonfiction unit. After all the testing we came to Mrs.Ward"s class to edit and fix our fabulous personal narratives. Then we will finish off the week with dodge ball for heart. March 7th - Happy March! This week we are finishing up our narratives. Next week we are going to start working on the non-fiction unit. We are also starting to get the hang of the new IAR testing rules. To start off our non-fiction unit,we are reading a nonfiction or biography book. So be on the look out for those. I hope you enjoyed the blog because this is the first time I have done it! Remember to set the clock ahead because this week for daylight saving time. Jacob K

February 7th - This week we had a A.L.I.C.E drill (lock down drill) and today we did our write about it Thursday(W.A.I.T) and went to the library. Also this week we did our daily language review. Make sure you study for the test. We worked on theme this week as well. Soon we will be working on our own personnel narrative. We worked on comprehension this week, too. Have a great rest of the week- Caleb H.
February 6th - Happy February! This week we had our ALICE drill; we practiced to make sure we know what to do if we are ever in a school shooting. Thursday we have W.A.I.T. (Write about it Thursday) as usual and don't forget to study for our DLR test on Friday! Next week we should be working on our conference slides to get ready for student lead conferences. We are reading a lot of personal narrative mentor texts! In ELA we will soon be writing our own personal narratives.I hope everyone will have a great February!

January 9th - This week we read/acted out a play on civil rights,right now we are working on our dreams. basically what we are doing is writing what we think should be improved in our community or world or country. Next week on Wednesday we have MAP testing but everyone will do awesome on it! I hope everyone had an awesome break and a Happy New Year - 2019 will be awesome!

November 15 - Throughout the last two weeks, we've been learning about our DLR or called Daily Language Review. Every week on Friday, we'll have a test on the things we learned in the past week. Today we worked on our "Write about it Thursday". We wrote a short summary on our classic books. It had to include, the setting, time period, and place.Later we'll have a project, making a small poster. The short summary was the start of the project. We'll officially start it on Monday. 6 bullet points at least for the interesting facts, a picture. Either handdrawn or printed at home. NOT AT SCHOOL! This Friday, is an Early release. Don't forget that next Tuesday the 20th is Thanksgiving Break! Have a wonderful Friday and Thanksgiving break! ~Piper K

November 7th - we have been reviewing Daily language skills. Next Monday we will start our new DLR .We had it last year but now it is different things and we get tested on Fridays. We are learning more about pronouns today. Hope this year turns out to be the best by far! Abby G.

November 8th - This week we are learning skills for Daily Language Review. We learned a lot of different pronouns. We are also reading a classic book. My book is White Fang. In class some of us are reading Old Yeller and some are reading Where the Red Fern Grows.So this is what we're doing in class and hope we have a good year! - Talon K

October 15th - These last 2 weeks, we've been reviewing for our "Figurative Language" test that is coming up! Today we reviewed with our bell ringer,highlighting different figurative languages with different colored pencils,crayons, or highlighters. We also made flash cards with different figurative language terms. Our test might be next week, but Mrs. Ward wants us ready for the test and making sure we know the different terms. We've been slowly getting better at recognizing figurative language. This week we will also be learning about organizing short stories on a plot diagram. Later in the week we'll be doing a tree map. The tree map will most likely flood into next week. Our book challenge list is getting bigger by the day! Don't forget that there are different genres that you have to read! 20 -40 books is the goal and we'll have a ceremony at the end of the school year and a sundae stand! October 11th - Today we had JA day, which means that today many wonderful volunteers taught the 6th grade about their chosen careers. It was interesting to learn about the many choices we have for once we get into the work force. Thanks to the volunteers who took time out of their day to come and teach us about their jobs! Tomorrow is Friday (it is not early release) and we will be finishing "Write About It Thursday". Hope that everyone has a good weekend! -Natalie M.

October 3rd - We have "Write About it Thursday" tomorrow, and we are going to the library. You also have to bring in your reading log because Mrs Ward is going to check it. I would bring it in everyday and do not forget to read your 20 minutes at least a day. We are doing Writing Workshop three times this week.There is also an early release this Friday. Remember to bring your book everyday. Matthew W

August 29th - Hi, it's Vivian and I'm this weeks blogger. This week in Mrs. Wards period 3/5 ELA class we have been writing letters to our future selves. We will open the letters on the last day of 6th grade. We have also started working on our outside reading books. Tomorrow we will write about our books. Today we took a genre pretest. ♡August 31st -This week was so fun Mrs.Ward is so nice, we setup our notebooks and glued our "Write about it Thursday". We are now writing a poem about our name, It's about what our name means and what we think our family or Bff or teachers may think about us and what we do in life. Thank you for reading my blog! September 10th - We will be learning the procedures of readers workshop. We will be MAP testing this week . In the beginning of class we will do the bell ringer and go over because we are continuing learning identifying genres. Carmelo

September 11th - This week we are going to be working on our poems, and we are also going to be working on our map test. We have been identifying genres.
